What are the different types of solar landscape lights?

Accent Lighting - The light is focused on a specific object to contrast it against a dark background. You can use spotlights or mini spread lights for accent lighting

Tier Lights - Direct light downward on the ground or shrubs and minimize glare, making them ideal for lighting walks and steps.

Floodlights - Direct bright light upward, they are a good choice for eliminating dark areas around windows and doors.

Spotlights - Direct light upwards at controllable angles to illuminate statuary and highlight landscaping fences and architectural surfaces.

Low Fixtures - Contains the light close to the ground, perfect for landscaping borders and driveways.

Taller Fixtures - Spreads the light over a larger area and can be used in gardens, patios or walkways.

How do solar lights store energy and how do they work?

Solar lighting is the safest and easiest kind of outdoor lighting to install. Each light has a small photocell device built-in to the fixture that converts sunlight into electrical energy. This energy is stored in highly efficient rechargeable batteries, used to light the fixture at night. This component knows when the light level is low and switches the light on. Make sure there are no other strong light sources near by that can affect the photocell because if it is not dark enough the fixture may not automatically switch on.

How long do solar lights stay on?

The length of time that the lights stay on depends on the amount of sunlight received during the day. Most solar lights stay lit for up to 8 or more hours with fully charged batteries. All solar lights require unobstructed sunlight during the day to recharge their batteries.

What advantages do solar lights offer?

Solar lights are very easy to install and require no wiring. Because solar landscape lights run on the sun's energy, they cost nothing to operate. Another advantage of buying solar lights is that LED bulbs will never burn out during the lifetime of the product. Low voltage incandescent and fluorescent systems need bulb replacements often and add cost and inconvenience to the product.

Where is the best place to install solar landscape lights?

Our solar lights can be installed anywhere they will receive sunlight; the brighter and more direct the sunlight, the better the charge. The powerful solar panels collect natural sun light and charge the internal rechargeable batteries during the day. As night falls these solar lights will activate and can shine for up to 8 hours when fully charged. With solar lights the more sun they receive during the day and the darker the area is at night the better they will perform.

What sort of maintenance will I need to be concerned with?

There is virtually no maintenance required except for occasional cleaning of the panel surface to keep it free of dust and dirt, and replacing the batteries when required.

Are solar lights as bright as regular lights?

Solar lights are usually not as bright as other forms of outdoor lighting. Solar landscape lighting offers a softer, more subtle accent lighting that makes your garden or landscape look stunning in the dark.

How often do the batteries need replacing?

Most of the products we sell use regular AA type rechargeable batteries. These are inexpensive, commonly found and easily purchased from any good battery retailer. These batteries are designed to withstand a minimum of 1000 deep discharges, which is at least 1000 nights of light. Replacement is quite easy to do and instructions provided give more information on this procedure.

How easy is it to install solar landscape lighting?

Our products are very easy to install. No real skills are required and often the only tool necessary is a screwdriver. Operating instructions come with every product.

Will the solar lights work immediately?

Usually, our lights work straight out of the box. However, if the batteries are low, upon receipt, we recommend that the light be placed in a sunny location to fully charge for up to 1-2 days before first use. If the product has an on/off switch then it is best to leave it in the 'off' position until it has had its first initial charge. After this time, the switch may be left on and the light will operate without further attention.

Will my solar light turn on automatically?

All our solar lights turn on automatically at dusk and will stay on up to 8 hours. Each light has a small photocell device built-in to the fixture. This component knows when the light level is low and switches the light on.

My solar light will not come on, what could be wrong?

1) Usually our lights work straight out of the box. However, if the batteries are low up receipt, we recommend that the lights be placed in a sunny location to fully charge for up to 2-3 days before first use.

2) Solar lights require at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day, the brighter and more direct the sunlight, the better the charge.

3) Make sure there are no other light sources near by that can affect the photocell (solar panel), because if it is not dark enough the fixture may not automatically switch on. If the light flickers this could be a sign that there is a small light source causing the sensor to automatically switch on & off.

4) Keep the solar panel clean of debris.

5) Replace the batteries with Rechargeable Ni-Cad batteries. These batteries can be found from any good battery retailer. These batteries are designed to withstand a minimum of 1000 deep discharges, which is at least 1000 nights of light.

6) If your solar product is equip with an on/off switch, make sure the switch is in the on position.

7) Some of our products will arrive with a cardboard tab between the battery and the post. This prevents the battery from working during storage and shipping. Please remove the tab prior to turning the unit on.
